Support your colleagues

Keeping track of your own wellbeing is vital in being the best version of you. There are many resources out there you can access to support you in keeping all these elements of your wellbeing healthy.

For access to planning documents, examples, and case studies within the Department of Education and Training (DET) access the DET Staff wellbeing model (DET staff only).

Physical wellbeing​

Start living a healthier life style.

Psychological wellbeing​

  • Raise awareness of Employer Assistance Provider (EAP) (DET staff only) and the services offered.
  • Optum (DET’s EAP provider) has articles on a range of wellbeing topics on 'Live Well'.
  • Raise awareness of mental health issues in the workplace through resources and tools available at Heads Up, Beyond Blue and R U OK? Day.
  • Reduce stress with mindfulness/meditation practice and education for staff (more information available DET Staff Wellbeing OnePortal site).
  • Using the tool measure te​st your own stress levels.​
  • Check out some of the TedED​ resources around happiness.
  • Check out these apps. Download them from the ‘Play Store​’ on your Apple or Android devices:
    • Calm - Relax with 'Calm', a simple guided mindfulness meditation that focuses on stress reduction.
    • Stop, Breathe and Think - Meditation and check in tailored to your emotion.
    • Smiling Mind - A simple tool that helps put a smile on your mind anytime, anywhere and every day.
    • Headspace - Meditation made simple. Guided meditations suitable for all levels from headspace.
    • Youthbeyondblue The Check-in.

Occupational wellbeing

  • Raise awareness of Employer Assistance Provider (EAP) (DET staff only) and the services offered.
  • Be aware of the hours you are working, and allow yourself to go home on time.
  • Take your lunch break.
  • Connect with colleagues and peers.
  • Set realistic deadlines.
  • Allow yourself time to do things you enjoy.

Financial wellbeing

Social and community engagement

  • Raise awareness of Employer Assistance Provider (EAP)​ (DET staff only) and the services offered.
  • Raise awareness of mental health issues in the workplace through resources and tools available at Heads Up, Beyond Blue and R U OK? Day.
  • Raise awareness with Mental health​ week in October.
  • Build a Wellbeing component to the school’s Workplace Health and Safety team, and the P&C.
  • Run a ‘stress buster’ campaign for a month which includes the following activities:
    • Morning guided meditation sessions using a mobile phone application such as Smiling Mind or Buddhify.
    • Initiate a ‘5 minutes of mindfulness’ ritual at the start of every meeting.
  • Supporting each other’s wellbeing is everyone’s business.​​
